About

Welcome old friends and new.

My callsign is no longer VK4MDX and I no longer live on acreage and so my ham radio activities are much more limited. For 3 years I lived in a one bedroom apartment in a tower in Australia’s largest city. My callsign is VK2KMI and for a while I retained VK4KIM, before ACMA changed the rules. I moved for another 3 years to a small townhouse and now live in a regional town with much more room for radio.

I see that there are still many people sending questions to me about many of my old posts. Please note my name is Kimberly and my pronouns are she/her. If you are respectful, I will be very happy to answer your questions.

Please note that many of the videos are no longer available as I closed my old Youtube channel. I could not bear to see images of myself nor to hear my voice, such is the nature of gender disphoria.

Apart from that, it is business as usual for this blog.

    1. Hi Kim

No I don’t have the 910 connected to the 706 but would like to do so. I’ve not been able to find out how

    2. Barrett informs me nothing special is required. The antenna uses automatic RF sense tuning. If this is so (I have not confirmed it by testing) then connecting coax and transmitting will cause it to tune. You won;t get the beep back for confirmation. This is caused by voltage on the blue wire. They suggested an LED would do the same job as the beep. Maybe I will get around to testing it soon.

    1. Hi Miles. I would buy the ZS6BKW if I was in your position. It works better than the G5RV on all bands you need.

  2. Hi David, I wonder if you are using CW on your IC706MK2G. As you may know I am a beginner CW operator. I am using a touch keyer connected to my IC706MK2G. I have set the rig up as if to accept a straight key so that the keyer is doing the keying. I would appreciate if you have any advice on the rig settings, or things to watch out for when operating CW with this setup.

  3. Hi David, I am trying to use Signalink & Team Viewer & Skype, but cannot get Skype audio inward. Would appreciate a few hints on `how-to-do-it’ in one easy lesson. Tnx Bill vk4xz

  4. Hi, I read about your part 1 rebuild of a Breville 330J. I have one here that someone has got at and I was wondering if you have a copy of the parts list, I have a circuit but only shows cap and resistors as C14 or R21 etc etc.
Many thks, hope you receive this….Bob (old radtech from way back when).
