CQ WAZ- 32 out of 40 Zones Worked

Map of CQ Zones

After a big day of updating my logs and recording all QSL’s received and sent, I find I have just a few CQ zones left to work in the world. Unfortunately these will be some rather difficult zones to get being in Africa and in the NW Territories of Canada and in Alaska. But I’ve decided, I’ll do my best to target those zones. I am not yet sure if I can qualify for the CQ WAZ award, as I have used mixed modes, (digital,SSB etc) and I can’t see if that is allowed in the rules. But it is still a nice target to aim for.

The CQ Worked All Zones (WAZ) Award and its variations are issued to any licensed amateur station presenting proof of contact with the appropriate number of CQ zones of the world. It is sponsored by CQ magazine.

Towards the Worked All Continents Award

It has been quite exciting lately, working distant stations with genuine QRP (5 watts) during the WW SSB Contest. I have also made several good contacts into Russia on CW. I was looking at my log tonight and realised I have four of the seven possible continents of the WAC (Worked All Continents Award).

They are- North America (worked) Asia (worked) Oceania (worked) Europe (worked) South America (not worked) Antarctica (not worked) Africa (not worked) There is an Aussie headed for Antarctica, so I will have to keep an ear out for him and see also if I can make some contacts into Africa and South America. The later will be difficult unless the sunspot situation improves.
